"We've longed to make a statement about who we are. Just 1,000 bottles produced. Our tribute to Shiraz and to those who chase it around the world."
Winemaker David Bowley and his small team spent a decade committed to perfecting their interpretation of Shiraz. Their 'regular' Vinteloper Shiraz was rated Australia's best by Decanter magazine in 2018, and yet this is a significant step up from that. No pressure then.
The grapes came from an amazing single vineyard in the southern Adelaide Hills, planted on rocky clay loam soils in 1999.
It was hand harvested then crushed by hand and foot. Naturally fermented. Matured in totally new (but large format, for gentler integration) French oak barrels for twenty months.
How good is this Shiraz? Right now, it is utterly mind-blowing. Dark, dark fruit, mocha, dried herbs, beautifully poised, coiled tannins. In time, it will be even better. One for the cellar, and to pop open at special moments over the next decade or more. Only 1,000 individually numbered bottles made.
