Quite simply, one of Australia's greatest Pinot Noirs, from one of the country's best vineyards. In winemaker David Bowley's own words, "it continues to be the best wine we've ever put in a bottle."
That special vineyard is at an altitude of 460-510 metres in Lenswood, a famed area of the Adelaide Hills. Planted in 1986 to Pinot Noir clone D5V12, it is farmed organically and kept immaculately.
What makes this wine great? It is the very epitome of an iron fist in a velvet glove. Its sheer presence takes you aback, so unassuming on first inspection is its pale colour and what is initially a delicate, floral, lightly fruity perfume.
Then the structure hits you like a wave before gently piling over you with flavour upon flavour. It is breathtaking, and will continue to take your breath away with every sip as it develops in the glass.
Crushed by hand and foot, naturally fermented, matured in French oak barrels for a year. Only 1,008 individually numbered bottles made.
