Bobal has always been grown in vast quantities in its native Spain, but for cheap, bulk red and rosé wines. Only recently have growers had the confidence to make more ambitious Bobal reds from old vines, and with awesome results.
Sebi Mancebo's organic vineyards are in the small village of Sinarcas, on an 800-metre high plateau inland from Valencia (see the image below of old Bobal bush vines under snow!). It's very hot in summer, but temperatures can plummet at night: great growing conditions for even a hardy, heat-loving grape like Bobal.
This younger wine has really bright, floral aromas, with smoke and herbs, and a soft texture with flavours of cassis, spice and prunes.
