This is the wine that you didn't know you needed. Roter Veltliner, no relation to Gruner Veltliner, is a variety that is indigenous to Austria. With the right conditions it can produce elegant, rich wines with fine aromatics that can have an enormous ageing potential. The loess rich soils of Wagram, and particularly Arnold's organically farmed (in conversion) vineyards, definitely have the right conditions.
As well as its great potential this wine is then fermented on its skins. 2-3 weeks contact with its skins has given this wine a deep colour, gentle tannic structure and intense aromatics. This is added to by 18 months ageing in small French oak casks. All of this results in a complex, intense, textured, flavourful, and most importantly delicious wine.
