A pioneering organic winery and a celebrated vineyard on the 'golden hill' facing towards the Danube river with rich löss soil and low yielding vines. Wild ferment, stainless steel, long lees contact. In young winemaker Martin Diwald's words: "Goldberg in cold years is hard to beat. Darker. Rosemary, juniper, caramel, figs and white chocolate. Very complex. It is a game between herbs and ripe fruits."
This Riesling grows on an often dry and hot south-facing slope with plenty of löss. Grapes are pressed whole and fermented naturally in stainless steel tanks, remaining on the lees till the following summer.
You could liken this to an off-dry Spätlese. The body is full and it feels warmer than Martin's other Rieslings, with exotic fruit aromas. The acidity, however, pulls everything together in one gorgeous, crisp, refreshing whole and shall help the wine mature beautifully for years to come.
