Champagne Albert Levasseur is a very small grower house set up by David's grandparents in 1944, the diminutive 4.2 hectares of vines farmed by David since 2003. The Rue du Sorbier Brut is named after 6, rue du Sorbier, the winery's home since the 1940s (David lives at number 4).
Made from organically farmed grapes, majoring in Pinot Meunier (a Marne valley speciality) with some Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, from their oldest plot, Les Gautelleries, planted in 1973.
While a 'normal' non-vintage Brut style, this still spends three years on the lees, the standard you expect from prestigious vintage Champagne. Its bubbles are so fine and elegant, vibrantly fruity (that'll be the Meunier) and hints of custard tart. Stunner.
