North-east of Siena in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Fèlsina epitomises the powerful style of southern Chianti. Arresting perfume of wild red berries, those hallmark Sangiovese cherries and nuances of mixed spices. Altogether fruit-forward in style, supported by supple tannins and a very long, spicy finish.
Their vineyards are more than 50 years old, located at an altitude of 350-420 metres above sea level, with a good south-western exposure. Biodynamic practices are followed in the vineyard, although without official certification.
The 2018 vintage in Chianti was cooler than average and this was a welcome relief for the vines after the heat of the 2017 vintage. Fine weather during spring resulted in excellent conditions for flowering and fruit set. The grapes underwent a problem-free, slow ripening during the mild summer and were harvested with great intensity of flavour, balanced by a vibrant acidity.
